Just read an article, that Scotland is going to vote whether they would continue with United Kingdom or will they be better off independent. If the Scots vote for independence, then what would become of UK. Its hard to believe that Mighty British Empire is all but gone. The Empire in which the Sun never sets, is now a mere shadow of its former self. The influence of UK has been great but its demise is a sad chapter in the world history.
I'm not sure the Scotts would be better off with independence, but looking at the state of Britain today, I can see why it might seem attractive.
The England/ Scotland relationship has always been a marriage of convenience as has England / Wales. They will probably remain united just for financial reasons. The trio don't like each other on a personal basis. The Welsh are trying their best to not even use English anymore, the Scots are accused of racism because they hate the English so much they don't want them living or working in Scotland. After centuries of wars against each other they have done well as the United Kingdom. They'll probably stick it out for a together.
Thats something like -"we share the profit and you alone take on the loss". They can't just be together for only good times. Erstwhile - Great Britain
