Is Blog Commenting for SEO a waste of time?

If they can distinguish the two maybe... But its definitely NOT a waste of time!

 

blog commenting can surely help in your rankings. but you need to post or find someone who can post in high quality websites and get their comments approved. blog commenting is not that effective if you just spam other people's blogs with comments such as "Nice Website" or "That was very helpful" etc. You need to post comments which give value to the site owner and is relevant and useful for the topic in discussion.

Blog commenting is not given too much of value by search engines but if blog commenting is done on some highly rated blogs of any government site, .org site or any other well know institute or organization site then those comments are highly valuated by search engines

i do fully agree with you. I just believe in logic not on myth. For every software either it is general search algo for normal site or the giant search engine Google, every one has some limitation.

Now back to blog commenting. It increases you backlink and as far as the relevancy of the blog is concern it depends upon the total content of the site including the comments.

That's the reason why comments required moderator approval. As it's upto the moderator of the blog to retain the relevancy by publishing the relevant content only.

So go ahead and keep posting. But always think of relevancy.

Blog Comment is not west of time if you are not use spammy trick, you need to only comment relevetn blog and if the blog is do follow you will get link juice other you also get traffic from the same & except Google other search engine will count no follow as back link

 

I think it helps as far as getting traffic, but not as far as getting an higher search engine rank, or at least from what I read. I'm still new to all of this myself.

Does nofollow blog comments give you any value? It doesn't add to any PageRank value but there has been a doubt in many webmasters that the anchor text value used is still passed on to URL linked to.

Does DoFollow comments give an overwhelming value? It again depends on Number of out bound links and also search engines ability to differentiate between editorial links and comment links.

Blog commenting is affective if links are Do-Follow in nature otherwise Google does not worth those links from blogs while other search engines will worth those links because no-follow links are introduced by Google only.

Five years ago blog commenting was great. This is 2012 - it is not good anymore... only if its completely relevant and NEEDS to be done to counter an argument. none of this "Great post, great information" rubbish just to get a link!
