    Hi all.

Now If I can't get the domain of my choice in a .com, what would be the next best extension?

Do they go in any order of whats best? .com being the top of course.

    Thanks.

every .com has been taken, even the most crappy ones & i wonder why those guys are sitting on them. its insane
but, you can always go for .net/.org or the new .co (they are branding it "as similar to" .com)

IMO, .com is the most popular one, followed by .net and .org after it. So if you really cannot find your domain in .com go with .net.

    You know...It really depends.

If you're doing work in the UK, a .co.uk is incredible.

Regional preference is picking up steam in a big way, and some software even returns results when checking for results of a product from links of stores in the area. Google turns this on and off, but they are clearly testing for a more regional type search system.

Local SEO will get very big probably around the time there is the first implementation of a more semantic search.

Traditione is all over it! Otherwise, a .org refers more to an organization, group, club or membership type site where as a .net refers more to domain, sub-domain, network hierarchy site. It's all your's for the pickin.

Personally, I would have neither one, without having the .com...

There are thousands of Great Domain Names 4 Sale .com available for way less than market, just by simply stating what you feel you can pay, no hype. Besides, most people believe in SEO keyword researched words and phrases, and all are hand picked by an experienced panel based on that work.

I guess most people see it as just another, eventually worthless, minimum, $8-12 expense in their life, but I...well, I don't really think that is the way to approach it. The domain name is the key building block whether you really develop the site or not. Most people spend a lot of time on a site and usually scrap it or lose interest. But what if they took just a bit more consideration and a few $$$ more added to the massive amount of time they will likely spend on the development.

You either end up with that $8-12 domain name combined with a dumped site that = $0, or you likely end up with a $100-500 domain name WITH a site on it with GREAT potential to monetize or sell!

Now a days google is going more local. So If your target market is local, go for a local country domain extension.

after .com i would prefer (order)

    .net
    .info
    .org
    .biz

    ccTLD
    .de
    .co.uk

if you are saying - Keyword or keyword-phrase in domain name then that's an old believe....Exact Match Domains or Keyword based Domains are not that important for your SEO nowadays....

.net and .org are the most popular after.com (although .net is more popular then .org I believe).

if .com domain is not available , i will not take .net, .org, .biz and .info as second choice.
I will take .co or country domain name as my second choice.
