Like Reuben pointed out, Wikipedia external links aren't nofollows. And while a Wikipedia link might not bring you much traffic, Wikipedia is definitely an authoritative source in Google's eyes: Their editors take the quality of Wikipedia content very seriously.

Wikipedia links are strong due to the stringent editorial rules/community and it's authority as an information supersite.

Apart of any non-follow tag, as soon as your site is found irrelevant, it will be deleted.

I'm expert deleting no-sense, irrelevant or spammy sites trying to profit from Wikipedia :D

The pages are PR0 at the moment because the PR hasn't updated yet for some pages. But for example, if you check: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oscar_wilde which must have been there for a long time, there's quite a significant PR.

nofollow or followed, the traffic alone is woth trying to get your links in there. I run a music site so I can link to each artist directly and this provides 40+ backlinks from Wikipedia alone for me.

Definitely helps with traffic and the SERPs bonuses are nice.

As for me, I haven't seen TOO much traffic from Wikipedia (maybe this is because of my niche :\), but it definitely helps with Google SERPs, so it DOES WORTH trying.

All the non english versions are 'no follow'

English version of wikipedia don't have this tag but you will lost your time to try to get a link if you are thinking about BL strategy and not improving Wikipedia content.

Like a wikipedia editor write : we look at this like hawks :)

If you can save your link from not getting eaten by these hawks, you probably get some google love from those links... ;)

The last time I checked, there was wasn't any "nofollow" tag. Not sure about now though...
    Bye

I have had some success with Wikipedia. I actually have 3 external links on 1 article (that I also happened to write.) If I could offer any advice, it would be to write and edit some content as its fairly obvious to moderators to see what your history is on Wikipedia. If they only ever see you adding links, you may be labled as a spammer regardless if you are or not.

Yeah wikipedia links aren't nofollow so they pass PR. They do pass some traffic (not much) but the only way you can stay there if you have a really authority site. If there are some evil competitor editors, even if your site is great good luck staying there.

Agree...Some traffic as it'll depends on how they find your article, if it'll get their attention and seek for more of it then traffic will definitely come by you...and competitors yeah goodluck with those evil competitors that might delete your article and create one for them...
