    Install an addon called PageSpeed from Google (also Firebug) and you would be able to find out everything that you need to do to improve your website speed.

    Long back i have done little bit research on this, below are few tips to increase loading time and there are many ways which i dont know, but i would to suggest you few which i know. And this is one of the most important factor to gain search engine ranking and reduce your bounce rate.

    - Check the Current Speed of the Website Through Google Tool
    - Reduce your images size as much as possible.
    - Compress and Optimize Your Content
    - Put Stylesheet References at the Top
    - Put Script References at the Bottom
    - Place JavaScript and CSS in External Files
    - Minimize HTTP Requests
    - Cache Your Web Pages
    - Reduce 301 Redirects

    IMHO one factor is the server. you should pick faster server, also you should lessen the number of pages. and yes redirection should also be lessen. image and other elements on site page.

    Picture out two main factors that make your website:

    . Server processing power
    . Page weight/server calls for dinamic pages

    Increase the first or decrease the second.

    It all depends on the server first of all and after that on the pictures,plugins,adds etc.If in excess your site will load slowly so try to reduce them and make the site simple yet informative.

    Use gzip compression for you website files It will speed up your Website. And if you don't know how it can be done then go to Google and type "how-to-optimize-your-site-with-gzip-compression" you will get all the details of it.

    It's depend on how light weighted site is your, use specific format of Image which diereses loading time of website.
