I have same domain name with .ca and .com extension. (e.g abc.ca and abc.com) Can i use the same content on both sites without being penalized by google ?I am confused a little bit because i am told that i shouldn't use the same content on multiple sites, however, i've just noticed that a big company uses the same content on two different sites and it seems it's working very well.
No you can't. You will be penalized for sure. People having unique content are getting beaten by these Google creates, how can you think you will get away from this?
i know one company has the identical content on multiple sites and they are not penalized at all. what do you think about these 2 sites ? digikey dot com and digiket dot ca
Sorry but that all sorts of wrong. Digital Point is not a real good place to get SEO advice. Most folks(as evidenced by this thread) have no idea what they are talking about. See this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ets7nHOV1Yo Nigel
No sweat, he had another video on that as well where he actually stated that in a lot of cases it actually helps google to serve the right version to the right demographic .... the .co.uk version to folks in the UK for instance rather than the .com or US iteration of the site. Short answer is you are fine. Nigel
I think you just have to put the rel="canonical" tag in your website content. That way Google won't have to flag you for duplicate content. After all, it is still the same site.
No can not use same content for different domains. google will surely penalized your website and after Google EMD (Exact match domain) many websites who having EMD like example.com, .in, .org are lost their visibility into google. Google will penalized low quality exact domains so be careful while you doing all these things and working according to the google guidelines.
All sorts of wrong again that is not what an EMD is in the first place. Please don't provide advice about things you clearly no nothing about. Nigel
Please don't do that one or both of your sites will definitely get penalized by Google . What better way to do is park your both domain to one website so no matter they search which domain will see the same content rather than create two same content which will only take troublesome.
That is not at all accurate. Not trying to be snarky or anything but its, well, wrong. Watch the vid. I will track down the other one from Matt Cutts that is similar in nature. Short of that, I already summed up it up. Nigel
Yeah. if both are your sites, its no problem. You can use canonical tags to prevent the search engine spiders to not crawl with your content. So that, its not considered as duplicate content.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hSoXutuj0g&feature=relmfu skip to 12:00,,,, aside from setting each domain geographically in webmaster tools.. which you should be doing anyway, it makes perfect sense to provide users with a company site relevant to various user demographics. Or on related tld's In the Op's case you may want to have a French option on the .ca(unless I am culturally ignorant lol..) The rest of his talk is quite useful as well. Might was well watch the whole thing. There is no smiley for my head exploding so I won't bother with that one. Nigel
I think you can use canonical tag for duplicate content for more details http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/2009/02/specify-your-canonical.html
