How are you getting bandwidth exceeded messages if they offer "unlimited" bandwidth? ;) See the problem? Nothing is unlimited in this world. Come up with actual bandwidth requirements and go from there.

If your website has huge visitor then you should move VPS or Cloud VM. or if not you should take good shared service who provide your need bandwidth. you can see how much bandwidth you need from cpanel.

I agree. Some VPS providers offer UnMetered bandwidth with a specified port speed. It can handle much more traffics.

"UnLimited bandwidth" is apparent false advertisement. Every company's bandwidth is limited. Even a country like United States has a limited bandwidth capacity. The whole world's resources are limited.

Are you only exceeding on bandwidth or also using up too many resources? If you are using too many resources you should really consider moving up to a virtual private server (VPS).

At what point do you guys consider switching from the cheapest unlimited bandwith at HostGator, to VPS servers? How many visitors and bandwith etc.?

Go to a few hosting review sites and read what people have said, there is a high chance that a host has written positive things about himself so you are looking for negative reviews because those will tell you the truth.

I would suggest you give a try to BlueHost, they are one of the best web hosts in the industry.

Not necessarily. I agree that you need to take some positive reviews with a large pinch of salt, but that applies to negative reviews too. Most customers who are happy with their hosting service don't go around posting positive comments because they have better things to do with their time, but those who are unhappy often have a grievance and are much more likely to tell others about it...whether their grievance is justified or not. Only looking for negative reviews is going to give you a completely skewed view of the company which isn't necessarily fair or representative of their service.

So reviews - positive or negative - need to be viewed with a skeptical eye because you never get the full picture.

It would be better if you could stick to a limited bandwidth account, that way you're likely to get better quality hosting and know exactly what you can use. "Unlimited" hosts are always limited, they just have something hidden in their Terms of Service stating what the actual limit is.

Nonetheless, you could check out JustHost. They have some bad reviews however when I used them a year or so ago they were fine.

Well it all depends on how much traffic you are getting, If you get around 500gb-1tb it is best you go into a vps.

250Gb is too much for shared server. You may seek a Virtual Private server to host your website.
