Well my view is that the bible is a load of cobblers, it's a nice fairy tale but it gives people something to believe in, just like most religions.

LOL... Ain't that the truth. I've been fooled before. It's sometime around the fifteenth circle that I realize it ;)

Well the history books talk of laws and rituals that uphold the rule of religion as if it is worthy of being enforced.

Come on buddy, go back 100 years, 300, or 1000, the belief in a god is has diminished over time.

You are reading out of context. What does Genesis 2:4 say?

It says "Deep in the Motherlode" (Mike Rutherford) – 5:54
Recorded live at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, London on 5 May 1980

That is from the 2000 boxed set.

I just don't understand why people don't believe in God, where in fact.

It takes "Faith" to believe that God doesn't exist. It takes some gut and a lot of mind boggling questions to deny His existence. than just simply believe. Will it harm you if you believe?

Looking at it on the flip side it takes a lot of faith to believe that he/she does actually exist.

The way I look at it is that if you believe in God fine, if you don't believe in God then fine. Every person is entitled to their own belief. :)

As for the "mind boggling questions to deny his existence", are you saying that you have actually met him/her? :D

Lovely...I think similiarly. I think there's nothing wrong with being a christian, mormon, athiest, muslim, jew, et al...as long as you reasonably apply your religion. I think I equally oppose a christian or athiest...if they constantly feel the need to force their beliefs upon me.

I remember my athiest friends would insult a christian friend of mine, even though it wasn't prompt. I told them not to be a dick, and to let her be.

On the internet it seems to prompt the worst out of people. Since there's no penalty to being rude here,...unless you piss the wrong people off.

What do you have to look forward to after death?. I believe in one God, that will save me from the everlasting fire.

    Cookoo.

I believe I'll rot in the soil and eventually break down into some kind of human sludge. Technically I'll still be here (the matter that makes me what I am), maybe that's what eternal life is?

    Rick, you write:

But who should be the arbiter of this "application?"

For instance. I come here for alittle distraction. I find a thread entitled: The BIBLE.

    I enter it.

I express my belief. Because of this at this very site I have been called everything from a retard to whatever.

You say it's cool so long as we of faith apply our faith reasonably. I'm not so sure you reflect the general tenor of the majority here who do not believe in the exitence of God.

Many sound angry, actually furious at times, with any suggestion of God.

I typically believe in what's true. And I don't need to fight for something that is self evident.

The funny thing is, when you think of it, every major historical advance in science was met with the same kind of response. Great scientists throughout history were so often considered cookoo.

What is so funny about this, is that it is for the most part young vitriolic amateur athiests who fancy themselves so far above such superstitions because of their "scientific approach and analytical approach.

But so many of the worlds greatest scientists themselves were of faith that the irony is just so striking to me.

The opposite seems true aswell; every time someone mentions atheism, you'll here someone else saying "have fun in hell."

What is so funny about this, is that it is for the most part young vitriolic amateur athiests who fancy themselves so far above such superstitions (they believe because of their "scientific and analytical approach") are the very ones now calling others "cookoo" simply for their beliefs. But when asked for scientific, analytical research or proof of their assertions, it quickly becomes apparent that they have none. They rely on nothing more than what they erroneous suggest is what we of faith rely on - nothing. But to begin with men of faith rely on something other than their own inclination in the very book now being derided by these amateur athiests. Secondly, history has shown that man is by nature a believer in God (I have asked for anyone to show me one people who did not believe in god, naturally without any answer other than "retard" "cookoo" etc).

Not to mention so many of the worlds greatest scientists themselves were of faith. Something these young amateur athiests simply cannot explain. And it pains them. Rightly so.

Thinking about death scares me, who knows what happens in the afterlife, frightening to think about it to be honest with you buddy.

The great thing about this world we live in with all the lies and deceptions is that nobody can say for sure what happens when we die.
