I disagree with everything you are saying about religion. 'History proves that knowledge of God is UNIVERSAL and COMPLETE in Man' - knowledge of god is not UNIVERSAL and COMPLETE in humans. What is UNIVERSAL and COMPLETE in humans is thought and intelligence. History proves that humans generally believed in the existence of a god but history also proves that humans increasingly believe in the non-existence of god.
Col. To me it is simple inasmuch as if Christ can make a man new, who, whenlooking in the mirror sees yet the "old reflection," then how on earth can you say that a day can not be Christs as well? This reminds me of the conservative (yes, "conservative" not Fundamental) Christians who decry our removal of all things God from our public buildings and parks, yet, when a day comes along that all who care to can celebrate Him universally... these same "conservative" Christians go bonkers. lol. Oh, the inconsistencies of Man.
I personally think that the bible is a load of old cobblers anyway. I remember when I was a child I was forced into going to "Sunday School" just so that my parents could get a few hours away from the kids (there were 7 of us.) Being forced into doing something like that at such a young age put me off religion for life.
. IN the image of God made He man. Or else, why aren't all animals more intelligent than from whence they began? History proves that humans generally believed in the existence of a god but history also proves that humans increasingly believe in the non-existence of god. Give me one example. From what study do you draw such a ridiculous conclusion?
With all due respect AGS your inclination is much understood, especially by Christians But an inclination is hardly a preponderance of evidence for or against anything. And with time things, such as you note, (an experience very much like mine own when I was a youth), fade. What happened to me somewhat later in life, is that I realized the fundamental things do, indeed, apply as time goes by.
As every generation passes the belief diminishes. 'God' and religion becomes less relevent to peoples lives as we continue our progression. You may disagree of course, I won't ask for any evidence. This is just my perception.
Yeah but I'm nearly 40 and still it hurts when I think about how us kids were actually forced into going without being given a choice. Funny how these things still resonate nearly 30 years on. The only god I believe in is money because life is pretty damn tough without it.
Sorry. You lost me there with all that. I am but a simple man that reads the Bible. I don't claim to be an intellectual. I like to keep things simple as possible.
Hey I am 42 and I know how you feel. I felt the pressure for most my life. Guilt trips and all from just about everyone I knew. But then I learned for myself. It's amazing what you can learn by doing a bit of reading.
Fair enough. But you do realize this is a far cry from a statement which purports that history agrees with your perception. For it does not. I have already named studies here which purport the exact opposite.
AGS, I am in my fifties, was in reform school run by Catholic priests when I was a child. Was one of the great sinners of our age, a hater of religion for so many decades. I am not saying that because this was my experience that it will be your experience. But mine and others just like mine are so common as to be proverbial. Good luck.
SEO, you write: yeah, but sometimes we have to push ourselves. As for me being an "intellectual", lol, honestly brother, everyone I know would be on the floor laughing their butts off to hear you say so.
"The Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground". Taken from the Bible, this is how we were made, no matter what Darwin said. Shall we not forget that he agreed he was wrong on his deathbed?
Oh, and AGS, money is a good thing. A very good thing. The Bible tells us so: Ecc 10:19 A feast is made for laughter, and wine maketh merry: but money answereth all [things]. The trick is not to turn it into a false idol. That's when you wind up in the soup.
I'm talking about the strength of the belief in God. Years ago people really thought there was a heaven and a hell and a controlling being. Now people realise that hell, heaven and god dont really exists.
I think Darwin would agree that fundamentally, ALL THINGS were made of the dust. I refuse to speculate upon God's methods. Heck, I'm just a glorified waiter as it is But, specifically, regarding your view of Adam being the first man, how is it that the Bible tells us that God made man and woman before he made Adam?
Hear me say what? That you are an intellectual? How would I know if you are or are not? As far as I know you could be a 15 year old kid with a fast connection and an online Thesaurus!...LOL
Which people? I don't understand. What study are you referring to or is this yet another "perception" of your own?
