Hello every one, i was trying to say hello in introduction but i couldnt post (now i realase i need to mark "I believe..." be4 posting) ok then, so greatings from spain to every one! question: it is illegal to buy domain name similar to somecompanyname-sucs.com?, i know this is called typosquatting and is maybe not ethical but it is really illegal? if the company really sucs every one? can i have problems if i do so? (the company is situated in us [or they say so] and im in europe), how big the chance to be penalize will be, if i install free forums in somecompanyname-sucks.com please leave your opinions thank you isd
somecompany-sucs ur straigh away insulting the company at 1st you are using their company name , if they have a copyright, patent, trademark, they can sue you properly. surely keeping such domains is welcome to problems
I think this won't be a case of typosquatting. Typosquatting is purchasing a variation of a popular domain with the intention of getting traffic off the original site because of a user's misspelling of the name. In this case it's not a misspelling but a suffix, so if the company's name is Trademarked then I would suggest you to stay away from such a name.
certainly then its not a case of typos, typos are just mistype words here the entire company name comes up in the domain.
Kind of off topic, but wouldn't the person who owns goggle be subject to some sort of a typosquatting suit then?
goggle.com would be considered a case of typosquatting as it's a misspelling of the original domain google.com. While in case of googlefire.com it would be a Trademark issue as it's not a misspelling but the Trademarked word in the domain.
ok, thank you for you opinion guys, but then if i run something like companies-which-sucks.com should be ok? what you say then? thank you for your opinion all this is about companies like for example; registerfly which every one knows they are not trastable and tiffs, and few others similar (sister webs) isd
The question here isn't whether this domain name or that is ok or a typo. The real question here is what is your intent. If you intend to commercially benefit by riding on a party's trademark rights, then expect trouble. It doesn't matter how slightly different your domain name is as long as it's possibly infringing it.
oh no dave, im not intenting to take benefits is oposit i want to run site especially to warn peapole of the companies like i mentioned above, so it is oposit what are u thinking: i will put my time, some money (eaven just to buy domain name) and my work to do everything posible to f. they business. i know there is many forums andmany places where can i post to do my review, but simple review is not enough 4 me, what i really want is give them good time... isd
goggle is a real word and the website is in no way related to google so they would never have a case. It is just a coincidence that the people really want to go to google. If the site was an imaginary word like googl then google would have a case.
