Of course, an infographic is a collection of information - usually some statistics of some sort in any particular niche which is presented in the form of an image. E.g information graphic = infographic. Here's an example of one my company did for our gambling website: http://www.livecasino.co.uk/blog/in...bling-because-theyre-all-employed-as-dealers/ It's a great way to link build as you can submit them to many sites, and if it's amazing, it will spread virally on it's own!

Well, every website you submit the infographic to, allows to link to your website. So by gaining lots of links, sometimes with anchor text, sometimes without, it is a great way to get natural links. Let me know if you need more information.

Yes it is important, it helps build link naturally and also rank your URL in google images. In my opinion, infographic will be paid much attention in the future of SEO and internet marketing.
Well, Information graphics or infographics are graphic visual representations of information, data or knowledge, (which means graphic is a more general term, whereas info-graphic is more specific, implying a means to present data, statistics using graphics. HOpe that my answer can help.
