That's the point though. Strategy was very important and always is - if you force an enemy to give up their strength (numbers) and fit the kind of battle you want, its easier to win. I always seem to remember that this battle was the first major combat to use the phalanx. The movie portrayed that okay in some spots, in other it was terrible. The phalanx is all about discipline and not being outflanked. That's why, it eventually was defeated as well.

If xerxes had any sense at all he wouldnt have forced his troops into that situation. He made the same mistake that the romans did at canea and they were also slaughtered by a smaller army of carhaginians who happened to have the great military mind of hannibal behind them

So that's the reason why they can't defeat a handful of Kurds despite being on their home soil and having attacked dozens of times . Yep , the inability to secure your own tiny borders , now that's greatness

I think we are talking about ancient warriors here, apocalypse.

But I do agree with you, Turkey has the 2nd largest army in NATO and and can kick Romania's ass any day of the week.

Now that's the overstatement of the century

In that case the turks are invisible since in antiquity they where nothing more then a small insignificant tribe .

Go read about guerilla warfare. That's something completely different than war, your argument is completely irrelevant to the topic.

Can't tell if too stupid or just too ignorant. Ever heard of Ottoman Empire?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guerrilla_warfare - Is a form of warfare . Swallow your ego and admit reality .

Yes you are stupid if you think the ottomans existed in the antiquity .

The point is that it's not that easy to get rid of guerrilla fighters. NATO, can't get rid of the Talibans for example.

The Mongol Empire emerged from the unification of Mongol and Turkic tribes of historical Mongolia under the leadership of Genghis Khan.

Guerrilla warfare that is over 40 years old on your own home soil ?

Also you're mixing history again Antiquity != Dark Ages . Learn to count .

Spartians were the greatest, they were the original warrior cultural based on honour, The reason being the Atheians goal was to kill them all, every man, woman and child, very chilling, thank God you live today to enjoy the freedom to live never mind the freedom to chat on the Internet.

It's not based on home soil, you are so ignorant it's not even funny. Their camps are based in Northern Iraq. You don't know jack shit.

The attacks that they perform are on your own soil . You're so bad at detecting them that not even your drones and radars can't do anything . You're warplanes entered Iraq numerous times , you've even deployed 10.000 troops into Northern Iraq just to hunt them down . Your special forces constantly infiltrate in those areas .
Despite 34 years of continuous war you're unable to protect your country from things like this : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012_Gaziantep_bombing

You can keep on backing the "greatest warriors of all time" claim , however the reality on the ground says otherwise .
