My Borat Quotes site made it to page 1 of Google when the domain was less than 10 days old and the site was 4 days old.

    sandbox, schmandbox!

Keeping that ranking will be another question. Unless your site is building tons of quality links - expect your site to drop off.

The sandbox is more evident in competitive sectors. Borat is quite new - so maybe if you could target new hot sectors there is an opportunity there. ;)

yeah, it's classic sandbox to rank for something right away then drop off the map a while later :)

again, though, the number of searches or the cost in adwords is likely correlated-- but not causing-- the results you're seeing.

Do you think its just random coincidence that new domains tend not to rank for terms that

    a) get a lot of searches

    b) have people bidding on adwords

Do you think that its an accident that new sites don't rank for profitable terms?

the seaches and , adwords bids are are just other signs that there is a profit to be made off of people who type in that term.

Do you think its on purpose or just a side effect of making new links not count for anything?

I think people like to believe the sandbox was some big conspiracy to make people spend more on adwords. I also think the idea is rather silly.

new sites cannot recieve too many links or they tank. this is the limiting factor and this is what makes it appear that those other things (number of searches a day, adwords spending) are related. "competitive" search phrases are... by definition, competitive. the serps where a lot is spend on adwords and where there are a lot of daily searches are also the serps where lots of sites are competing for a single keyphrase.

what that translates to is your site needing a lot of link power. unfortunately, because of the sandbox, if you were to throw as many links at it as you need, it wouldn't rank anyway.

why? google's main source of revenue is adwords it doesn't take a grand conspiracy for any smart company to try increase their bottom line

What will the end product of it be?

I have lots of sites I have linked to death I doubt they will every rank in google

if links keep getting more credit as they get older, as time passes won't the same sites still have the same advantage

with the exception of the occastional old site that is puschased by someone and cranked up, do you think we will be looking at pretty much the same serps from here on out.

At least for established stuff, of course there will be new sites like borat quotes, or whatever the latest pop culture thing is, but for established industries, the same sites forever.

like for some of my travel sites, like locations, and cities , all the top sites are from 96-98
