Are Titles Extremely Important?

Sorry to revive an old thread, but I have a new question regarding the META tags.

Would it be a good idea to remove the Description tag? Since all the pages on my website have the same description tag.

The title tag is very important.

Depends on whether you want your website to be listed in results with your description tag as the result description, or the sentence containing the keywords a user searched for.

 

Description tag is a description of that particular page , so your description tag usually will have to be different for different pages .

 

IMO, It is not really important to put a description tag. Better not have a description tag tho, than having the same one for all pages. If you do not have desc on your meta tags, the search engines will get the first few sentences of the content it can get on your page.

 

Making your Title tags different in every page will not only benefit your SE results but it will also help your visitors to have an idea about the pages of your sites.

 

so removing a description tag would be a good idea, then right? Because i won't have to do any work...?

 

One observation from me in case for you guys.

Titles of pages of one of my websites is beeing generated by a script. Recently I changed them not correctly , so that for many pages got the title what I needed and many of very important pages got very wrong titles like sometimes their URLs (that was very sad).

To mention that all of my pages where indexed very well before changeing titles.

And guess what happend, those that got better titles kept beeing in index and those pages which got wrong titles got deindexed

So title is very important and change of titles can sometimes affect indexes.

I know its good to vary the title but what about the meta tag keywords?

 

Just have one keyword. The rest are ignore anyway. Better off having unique descriptions and unique titles that relate to each page.

This would be the best answer. Also something else that seems to work is if you are optimizing for oranges and you site is 123.com in the tile instead of putting 123.com - oranges try oranges - 123.com.
