Here is an easy description of how they work: http://money.howstuffworks.com/affiliate-program.htm --- Basically what you are doing is signing up with a program (i.e. like Amazon.com's Associates Program). Once you do that you then promote a product in their inventory. If you sell one of their products, you get a commission.
