A site is listed in ODP as www.kolkatafootball.com which needs to be listed as www.kolkatafootballs.com as it has moved to this new domain. Any idea how to do this or can any DMOZ editor help me in this ? http://www.dmoz.org/search?q=kolkatafootballs.com
Visit the category where it's listed, click on the update listing link at the top of the page and follow your nose.
Thanks Jim. I have followed your instruction for update and it has shown the following message... The change will be processed pending review by an editor.
Hey, man, every editor is a volunteer, working in their spare time, if you want to complain about the time frame, why not try the entrance exam and give up your spare time to get complained at by punters like your self who do nothing but want something for nothing.
For your kind information, I tried 3 times myself to be DMOZ editor to get some links corrected. Neither they care about having new volunteer nor they do it by themselves. Now, you will definitely say that i dont have the credential to be a DMOZ editor to glorify ur level as an editor. For that matter I would just like to tell you that I am a wikipedia editor for last 3 years and there was no problem with that. If all of you volunteers enjoy your spare time and the management sleeps like this ...then we will see more topic like "Is DMOZ dead/relevent anymore ?" in Digitalpoint !!!
Only once AFAICT (unless you gave false names on the other two occasions). The response you were sent included the reasons why it was declined (and I agree with them).
I just wonder that people @ DMOZ have so much time to fight on a forum ....but they dont get time to correct a small link which is already on a 301 redirect !!! How Funny
Not fighting, just providing informed advice and occasionally correcting misinformation. I have plenty do do in my own areas of interest (Regional) and I have no intention of venturing into unfamiliar/uninteresting to me parts of the directory where I have no experience to make a not very important change[1]. Some volunteer who is interested in football will process your request in due course. [1]Why is it not very important? Because you've quite properly put a redirect in place and so the surfer isn't inconvenienced by the time lapse at all .
Jim, do as you are told and spend your spare time the way upalc tells you to spend it. I am sure if you tell upalc how to spend his spare time helping you he will gladly go and do it. Not.
I am afraid that by the time a volunteer gets time to modify the link, the previous domain www.kolkatafootball.com will expire and then i'll be asked to provide proof that this domain is the same as of www.kolkatafootballs.com, which will be difficult then !!! I am worried coz I dont want to lose a DMOZ backlink ...simple.
If you have an update in, the link will not be lost completely, though you might find that the old domain expiring would take it out until someone looked at the update. Updates are treated more as a priority than looking at new suggestions, but the system still is that someone who can edit in that area has to volunteer to work in that section and do the update. I will not respond to people posting on here, in the sense of hastily going and sorting your link out, because I think we have to work with the system, mainly because if editors are seen to be responding to requests here or anywhere then we would create a queue here and the spirit of DMOZ is that sites and updates are offered and editors are allowed to edit where they wish, within areas they are allowed to edit in by DMOZ.
might as well, everyone else is. as for your wait "an editor will get to it, or not sometime between now and the end of time". So don't hold your breath, you'll die. Just move on, and forget about it. If your page is worthy and has the proper meta tags, what is shown in the ODP will never ever make a difference to your site one way or another, and no one will ever see is (your dmoz listing) save a couple of editors. As for you actually changing pages, don't worry about that either... it will not effect your traffic in the slightest (beyond you actually changing the link to begin with).
WOW... And you wonder why people don't care about the ODP anymore. Editors don't care about the place, so why should anyone else? The answer to the question again is, YES, everyone else is... cept the editors, they are laughing at you.
