I recently made a post talking about how so many people who start a directory site thinking it is fast and easy money, only to find out that it takes hard work and constant attention. I am still pretty new myself, but, just in case there was a person who was newer than me to the idea of starting a directory site, I warned that it was not an easy way to make quick cash and that they would be starting something that they should be serious and sincere about maintaining. Don't get me wrong, I think that web directories will always have a place on the web, and I don't want to discourage anyone from starting a good one that will be helpful to people. In fact, that was the whole point. I just have seen a lot of crap on the web-especially after getting involved with SEO and finding out where it all was coming from-and my real hope is to wake up a few people to the realities of running a directory site. Hopefully many will still want to pursue this option and do it the right way. I know that I am just one person ranting on one forum, but I hope that at least a few people will read this and take it to heart. As I continue my humble effort to rid the web of clutter, I wanted to to go into a bit more detail and say that people who don't take proper care of their content should just get it over with and shut their trashy site down today! Don't even think about it. Just do all web surfers and other directory owners a favor and remove yourself from their presence permanently. There are too many others who take the time and effort to do things the right way and still have to suffer disrespect in the minds of web surfers and in the eyes of search engines like Google when their site is devalued. I just can't help but think that if directories became spam free then they would become just as valued as they once were.
Web directory is one of my major work area and i found it more competent then any other means available on the net.
Hello Alex. I agree that directories are a good way to make money and do business of the web. Just like doing other things online, it's only really profitable if done the proper way.
Problem with your rant is that there are those who know they are making crap and don't care and those who are in denial and aren't listening. Those who agree and are listening are sadly in the minority.
