As a creator of a batch watermark software I'll chip in with my two cents. Is there a need for Watermarking photos? It depends. If you make money by selling either the photos themselves or items through the photos say on eBay or an online pet store, and if your competitors can steal your photo and steal your business then yes you do need to watermark your photos. But if you are posting images just on your blog and you don't mind people copying them and sharing around or using them for personal or business purpose then you don't need to watermark them. Do you need a batch watermark software? Again that depends on your need. As such adding a watermark is nothing but adding a piece of text or an image on another image and you can use even MS Paint to do that. But if you have to apply same watermark on a bunch of images on a regular basis, then you better get a batch watermark software. It saves time. BTW you can check out our watermark software called uMark.
