Google page rank checker checks page rank(PR). OP was talking about checking the keyword position (SERP) of certain keywords.

 

I think manual is better than software. but if you have reliable software then you can use.

 

Numerous tools available free of cost like rankchecker, checkrankings etc.

 

Google webmaster can help us, it's more exact!

In this tool you can check the ranking of your website in multiple Google Search servers (different countries) and has the facility to check ranking of a bulk of keywords together.

 

Use a SERP checker to check your rankings, especially if you have multiple keywords. Much easier to do. Just makes sure to pick one that actually saves and tracks your rankings for you. As far as checking multiple times per day, google isn't going to care unless you do it 100+ times for the same keyword, but it won't effect your rank. They may think you are a bot and force you to enter a captcha value. No need to check your rank for a keyword more than twice per day. I know it can be a curiosity thing, but the results aren't going to change much over the course of several hours.
