Most people already have hosting/domains, and even if they don't it's not very likely that they will suddenly decide to buy hosting/domains juts because they see your link. Signatures are best used to advertise yourself and not to make money from affiliate links. People see 100s or 1000s of signatures a day. Even if they buy a domain that day from a signature link then there is net to no chance that it will be your signature they click. I think you are making the mistake of seeing your signature as some kind of free cash machine. You need to offer something unique.

Well it is not exactly 25% off or 1 month free hostgator coupon. I have assumed 1 year of free paid hosting or domain names at a price below any imaginable coupons would be unique enough (for people who obviously need to have interest in the subject), but it appears not.

could you expand on "Signatures are best used to advertise yourself "?

Your actual offer is pretty good, but I think most people don't even look at signatures, as they are more interested in the posts. I saw your signature but I already have hosting, so no good for me. Also I don't like GoDaddy, so wouldn't use them anyway. They are way too expensive. And it's too much hassle to get a cheap deal and then have to move lots of websites. Same with domains, cheap now, but then expensive 2nd year so you don't save anything.

By advertise yourself I meant if you offer a particular service or have a blog that may be interesting then you could direct people to that. But I suspect that signatures rarely make people much money simply because there are too many of them. Think of it this way - if you read 1000 posts and saw all 1000 signatures, how many would you click and end up buying something from?

The best way I've found to use the signature is to give away something of value in exchange for their email.

There are so many signatures out there, its hard to actually stand out and make it possible to get some money out of it.

well I am getting some clicks. The only thing worries me that most of those clicks are probably from other marketers and not the end users

    Hi atxsurf,

I agree with bkkguy, people see many signatures a day, and for best results,
you have to put something flashy and induce people to click.

It is best to send those clicks to a squeeze page to build a subscriber list,
and there if you start to build confidence and offer your hosting plans or domains.

    Greetings

Your spot on, but to add to this, anyone that finds posts from DP from google search results (and this is how i found DP from search results) guests that dont log in NEVER see your forum signatures. So the few people in the world that would be interested in whats in your signature, never see it. Whereas someone who signs up because they want to ask questions and learn how to improve their site, can see the sign but whats the point.

Ive probly read posts from DP for a year or so, if i had been able to see peoples signatures, i might have used their links / services / coupon codes.

my sig makes $0 per month. But then again, the site listed in my sig is not worth promoting anyway.

yeas i know, the audience of signatures is DP member base only, which is still quite large

that's a bad attitude, why would you promote anything that not worth promoting?

I think if they made a premium option for paying members to have sigs displayed for guests, then the sigs WOULD stand out, and it would be well worth the pricetag.
I had my former site listed in my sig, but received very little traffic from DP. But then again, i personally feel like it is a sea of sigs and the sigs do compete poorly against DP's ads.

The site in my sig now has no method for monetization, i got no other way to promote it, and its just something i wrote to practice/learn php and sql. its not worth promoting but meh, ill leave it in there.

Well currently I make nothing due to lack of interest. I made a few bucks in the old days though by selling my signature links here on DP. I also gained quite a bit of hits off it while I was promoting my own interests - my youtube channel with gaming videos. Overall I think it's quite a resonable way of both earning and advertising as the number of hits often seems to be beyond satisfactionary.

may be only if you are a premium member - your signature links are not visible to search engines (or people who not logged in to DP) otherwise
