OK, I just started tinkering with Joomla, doesn't seem to be an easy way to place ads in Joomla. Using the HTML editor doesn't seem to work, what do I need to do?

Joomla has alot of modules for adds extensions these include.

    googla adds,

    adbrite,

    text link adds

Basically any adds under the sun, even their isnt a specific add module for you adds provider you can download a php module and insert the code yourself.

Check out the extensions link on joomla site and you can find what you are looking for.

Extensions are the best way to go. If that does not work - I have had times where I had to insert the "ad code" straight into the database table to get it to stick. If I remember correctly, I'd place the adsense code in a module and it would never be there when I went back.

    Crazy.

Same with ravianz, just edit the index file and put ads where you want.

Mess around with it too, sometimes you can find places to put your ads that will show up in the "comment" pages.

Guys are you crazy.... there are TONS of modules that fix that. You can either do that with a bot, or download a module called mod_html. just add the code and place it where you want to.

Adsense Mambot can do it easily. You can get it at http://extensions.joomla.org/component/option,com_mtree/task,viewlink/link_id,26/Itemid,35/

This will help toplace adsense on your every content automatically. Also there are some other options about adsense place etc.

It's also quite easy just to create a new position in your template, and create your own AdSense component.

I have done this for AdSense, as well as Amazon.

The component vs. Template HTML, however, has Pros and cons. I chose to use a componenet rather than HTML, because I wanted to show SOME of my ads ONLY on content pages, and not the frontpage. It was incredibly easy to code this using another position plus component. (and even easier to turn it off when I choose to)

You don't always need to clog up your CMS with extra components. If you have problems placing adsense code in your own module, first turn off your WYSIWYG editor in the global settings. (set it to "no WYSIWYG").

And you can always just place the adsense code in the banners component...(*you'll have to put in something for the image, but the google code replaces it.)
