    Hi

I am in the middle of creating a forum for one of my sites, the reason I am setting it up isn't for the purpose of SEO but at the request of my websites members, I had a few people contact me asking if I would considering adding a forum.

I'm just wanting to know will this help my site, the forum is going to be linked to from my website but it's under a different domain, for example mysite.com for the site domain, the forum domain is mysite-forum.com

    Thanks in advance

    Dee

Yes linking it back to your website will help you but it would be better if you have used the same domain for forums also. You could create a sub domain like forums.mysite.com.

It would be better. Anyways Best of Luck!!

Forum helps the site ranking in many ways. You get more pages indexed in Google, your site is more active. Generally it's a very good thing.

Yes I would say overall a forum is good by adding lot of fresh and unique additional content to your site. However there is some concern that a forum could add too much "thin" content and get you hit by panda. You also need to make sure that the forum doesn't fill up with spam. If you are concerned about this, you put the forum on a subdomain so that Google will treat it as a separate site.

Sure, a forum will be good for you; if it helps to build up the community then you'll get more traffic. I would recommend you have mysite.com/forum/ instead. You could have mysite-forum.com and interlink, but don't expect anything much in terms of weight (Google will know the sites are yours). You may as well keep it all in one place, you'll have more "juice" flowing around.

I would have also suggested doing this on the same domain name. Adding a new domain is not going to help you much at all as far ranking is considered. However, if you have all of those threads on the same domain name then it could possibly help you bring some good google traffic. I have that one of the best things that forums help out with is lots of fresh content. You are always adding new things and makes for great long tail keywords.

Only dofollow back links help the keyword ranking. Nowadays, forum sites are ranking in top position at search engine.
