Would you say that Yahoo! Directory listings are worth $300 or would that be a waste of money?

    Please share your opinions.

    Thank you.

If you have more money than you have time to spend building content, then it is worth it.

i have contemplated on buying the link from yahoo directory too. But after some thinking, I would spent the 300 on buying from high traffic site for one year or high PR prominent link from related site. I found it to be more helpful that way.

Well, may be someone else could help to answer your question directly. The above ist just my opinion.

depends how valuable your time is and your $ you have to invest. If you just want to drop some money and forget about it, go for it.

I have a link in the Yahoo Education directory, and rarely see traffic from it. I would say that your money is better spent on a high traffic relative link.

No big changes in serp, but you could expect some traffic depending on your category. I think it is a little overpriced, $299 could be spend much better ;)

I took the same money and bought links that brought in hundreds of visitors monthly. That's just too much money

yahoo directory in my opinion isn't for new starters like the others have suggested build content and get some other related links, but for a good site well established its just one more link from a reputated website to your back links can't do any harm.

It's a good trusted link and I've heard that it can help new sites get out of google's sandbox and, in some cases, it seems to help with improving yahoo rankings. I have heard numerous cases of people having trouble ranking and then they submit to the yahoo directory and suddenly they are getting rankings. That being said, you can submit to microsoft bcentral, business.com, botw.org and dmoz for some trusted links that are cheaper than yahoo dir. If you find after a long while that you still are having trouble getting ranked in Yahoo and you are ranked well in Google and MSN you may want to consider adding to the Yahoo directory if you have the cash.

Somebody once said that if you can get in DMOZ, BOTW and Yahoo! Directory Listings, you are in an incredibly good position when it comes to coming out of the sandbox. I would definately say the current age and quality of your website is all important before submitting to Yahoo! however. For instance, if the quality of your website isn't brilliant, they take your fee you paid and keep it whether they reject your website or not. Also if your website is a certain age with a few links to it and this has made Google 'aware' of your websites presence, then every month your website is in the Yahoo! Directory will count towards shaving off the sandbox time. I hope this makes sense, lol!

Its better to spend money on renewing the domain for 10 Years than paying for a listing at yahoo directory., (if its a new domain), It May help your domain to come out of the sandbox soon., Even then if you build links rapidly you may be flagged.,

I don't think there's any evidence that renewing a domain for a long time helps getting out of the sandbox. Certainly not compared to getting trusted links like the Yahoo directory.

Certainly there are no evidence, But i assume that, hosting a site in a dedicated server and renewing it for 10 years may help a site getting out of the sandbox.,

Unfortunately, there's no guarantee that you will be listed in the Yahoo directory even if you pay the $299. They say that the $299 is just for them to review the listing. Hopefully it gets included if you paid that money.

That's a good point Sarathy. I know Google has become a registrar and has it in one of their patents. Is Yahoo a registrar which would enable them to check domain info?
