This one's for all the directory owners. Are you happy to be included in all the directory submission software that's springing up? Some of it features things like category mapping and no automatic submissions, so it's not entirely submission by bots. Nevertheless, I can't help thinking that all this software is just going to increase the spam submissions.

If your directory has been included in submission software, please post your experiences. Was it a positive experience, or did you ask to be removed?

I'm certain about the auto-submission software, but for some of the stuff that is getting built I can see there's a grey area.

Personally when I submit a site I will use a browser plugin to speed up the process, yet always check the form and push the button manually. I would not mind having people submit to my directory using this approach. So if there is software out there that allows submitters to do something similar, I'm okay with it in theory.

I'm just wondering whether, in practice, it leads to a lot more spammy submissions. I think the only way to measure this effectively is through the experiences of directory owners who know when they have been added or removed from such a tool, because the software itself doesn't usually leave a footprint you can track in your logs.

I don't have evidence that such software will lead to more spams, but my belief as an owner of paid directories is that paying customers will not use such submission software to submit their sites.

If you know php make a custom field... bots are programmed to pass common validation, but no one is going to make it pass a custom one.

I wouldn't mind if the software forced users to follow my guidelines when submitting. Sadly, most of the people who paid for submission services or use software miss out on up to 3 deep links at the Strongest Brands.

Always happy. as it might bring in more traffic.

Plus most of my directories have captcha and have only paid options. :)

I dont really mind submission programs that arent just auto fillers.. semi automated ones can help. Generally the lists don't add you if your not free.. so if your free you can expect the programs to list you..

Your right about not many people doing featured/paid links via submission tools, hopefully mine will be a bit different in that regard but we'll see.

I have to say I dont mind a software that take the doldrum out of submitting your sites to the hundreds of directories out there as long as its not totally automated, the directory owner still has to choose the correct category, input the captcha and of course hit submit. I just found out my sites were added to submiteaze so dont know yet how that will work for me. I do get some annoying spam submission and i even found them submitted and approved for featured listing, i couldnt believe it, very annoying.
