Wow... Digg was just sold for $500,000. An insanely low price given how much traffic they get even today (7 million visitors per month). http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702304373804577523181002565776.html Wish I knew it was for sale... fairly certain I could have monitized it to make more than $500k in revenue within a few months. Oh well...
Looks like they rode that wave until it hit the rocks. It is shocking they never sold it when it was worth tons more.
Yeah... although the founders probably assumed it was going to get more popular, not less. Still crazy it sold for $500k though... I mean in a worst case scenario, you could shut down the site, slap some ads on it and make that back in a very short time.
This doesn't even make sense to me. How does folding it into another brand entirely revive the Digg brand? The whole deal seems off.
That is really low. I had considered that Digg was really on the rise. It has been indexing very well lately and many users enjoy checking it on a daily basis. Prices can rise and fall quickly across this industry. Sometimes, you just have to decide when it is time to let someone else steer the ship so that you can hit the shores and enjoy the rewards of your work.
Wow that's a low price..Although Digg has fallen more and more the past few years. They could have gotten allot more for the site a few years back..oh well
they deserve it.. digg.com is just full of spammers, and there are no interested articles anymore 3 years ago it was a social site, then in turned into an Apple fanboy site always spamming rumors and shit about iProduts in the frontpage. It got what it deserved.
I tend to agree with animedbsellersz, though I'm also surprised that it was not sold sooner -- its fate had to have been seen coming years ago. For those interested, it was sold to NYC-based tech firm Betaworks. TechCrunch has an article with more information about the sale.
Well I would say that Digg was good, but the problem being they are too good, SEO spammers got attracted to it and I guess the traffic quality deteriorate but, $500k is still too low a price for such a site. With some improvements and adjustments, it can be made to sell for a far higher price.
