I don't think so there is any disadvantage of SEO. People around the world earn millions and billions from their online businesses. Yes we can say that spamming is the disadvantage of SEO.

It´s not a good idea to only concentrate on seo, as it takes time to see resluts and your traffic will completely depend on Googles searcj algorithm (They optimize them several times per year, so you may loose your rankings almost instantly) Mix up seo with other strategies like article marketing, squidoo lenses, free blogs and video marketing.
