    Godaddy .COMs can be bought as low as $6.31 (any quantity/any number of years). There are cheaper offerings from other registrars (like $1 from register.com or $1.99 from yahoo) but I think they are good for one domain only and for 1 year only.

    If you can try to get a domain that is already in place and if possible already has PR and backlinks to it. Makes ranking it much easier.

    Most of the good domain names are already registered. Be very careful that you do not choose a low quality domain, because it is awkward to change your brand name later on. If you have a larger budget to work with, I can help you get the best domain within that budget.
