I do not know if I will move to Vista. But, at the rate bug updates are making my WinXP install less stable, I might be forced to update.

My plan is to get a new mobo and and dual dual-core processors with built in virtualization support and around 8 Gigs of RAM and run individual apps in their own VMs. This is a better security model than any OS can offer on its own.

For me, the question than becomes what is the best host OS. I own WinXP, Server 2003, and I already*nix variants. If Vista is a better option than these for the host OS, then I will buy it. Otherwise, I may forget about upgrade hell forever more.

Well, my father purchased it back in 2002-2003. Was about $2,900

I didn't have much knowledge about computers to understand how powerful of a computer we had back then...

    But yeah...we bought a Dell XPS :)

    3.2GHZ HT Pentium 4
    80GB 7200RPM HDD
    120GB 7200RPM HDD
    128 ATI 9800 Pro x2

    ^Basic specs

I still get Aero support and the Vista Adviser tells me to upgrade to Vista Business.

We currently have 1GB DDR-400 (Not sure about the ram speed, I'll check that later) //Edit yeah, DDR 400 (PC 3200)

We never upgraded it so...I guess there is room for 1GB more ram I suppose :)

Y, I'd strap on another 1GB in - especially if you U/G to Vista...I have 2GB and I don't think that is enough sometimes!!

same memory as I have in mine but I can't run it that fast (long story)

Well...only if I can afford to buy more ram. Haha..

    I'm only a student after all :)

Seeing as the Vista update will cost me about $250..

I am thinking of getting one when I change my PC but i heard that there is quite a high minimum requirements to run Windows Vista. Don't know if its true.
