    do they know your name?

How do you send/receive money without people knowing your name?

Can you open a merchant account, without incorporating, and receive payments without others knowing your name?

Yes, then they click on send money. They've proceeded to a confirmation page where they can see your name.I dont think theres a way to accept payments that way though you can make paypal bussiness account and put bussiness name instead of your real name :)

If you are doing business above-board without any hanky panky or plans to deceive your customers, they would not mind dealing with an individual and I don't think you should be worried that your name be mentioned. Somewhere along the way, they will have to know who you are to deal with you. It is about building trust.

Unless you're selling drugs, there shouldn't be a need for that kind of anonyminity. People obviously want to know who they're sending money to. It's for legal issues, yes...but more than anything, it's all about trust.

Why do you want to hide your name? They really can't find any information about you with just a name, anyway..

Would I have to incorporate, or could I just make up a business name and use that? Like a DBA?

Ensure that you have a bank account with your business name so that you can withdrawl the funds to the account. DBA is fine but you might need to register your business with your local chamber of commerce or whatever dept which manages businesses.
