With the recent purchase of Youtube maybe google will want to buy Digg too so they can get to the top of one more service with money instead of work.

Yep, it fits perfectly with their mission of storing and organizing all the world's information.

Though Yahoo also has a good probability since they are buying all "web 2.0" startups.

I doubt they will buy digg. If they wanted, they could make one within a day.

digg seems a bit beyond just a startup at this point. the snatching up strategy applies better to sites that have potential but haven't yet reached it.

Digg would be quite useless to Google. I don't see them buying it. Youtube is very large, successful and with Googles web presence can be brought up even higher. It was a good buy on their part. Digg wouldn't be.

Yeah but it would be some google "beta" type and it would probably be beta forever... they could buy digg with their lunch money so why not?

There are so many digg sites out there. I can see little benefit in Google buying it. However I'd have said the same about YouTube.

Now, as someone who was banned from Digg if they buy it will it mean my sites go down the SERPs drain?

Digg would be nothing without Google's SERP's loving it. You Tube and MySpace have their own traffic...

no, no and no, i very much doubt they would, digg is at the moment an unstable and easily gamed property, let them sit it out and wait to see what happens when the web 2.0 bubble bursts, which it will
