I used the case of Orhan Pamuk as an example regarding freedom of speech and not if Armenian genocide is true or not. That is not the point at hand Leet. But you very well know that! Orhan Pamuk was almost going to jail and only because your government wants to be a part of the European union Orhan Pamuk was lucky not to be thrown in jail. That is exactly what freedom of speech is about, to write and speak your mind. If it's true is another discussion but that is not important concerning freedom of speech. Thank you for admitting and proving my point about your government suppressing the media if they feel like it when they are criticized. Oh well, i got it from a Turkish proverb collection, you get the message The man in question is Orhan Pamuk Leet not Orhanius Pamukyan. I don't know who that is you are talking about and apparently nobody knows. Good luck Leet and may your country be totally FREE one day and enjoy the TOTAL freedom it deserves.
A man must be true to his own conscience. This is far more important than whether a man is able to support the actions of his countrymen.
According to whom? What you are saying is all wrong. Do you have the right to say it? What constitutes "denigrating Turkishness?"
We have plenty of that here in the US. People betray their country all the time without even giving it a second thought. Four year patriotism. Sometimes it seems like selling out your country is as popular and fashionable as ringtones.
Yes I do have. According to Ottoman Empire's historical archives and fear of Armenia about releasing their historical archives. If they had real proofs, why would they be afraid of releasing them?
Turkey is using common sense in addition to the Quaran, but they are still long ways away from being a model.
Even if you are wrong. Yet, you're view of someone else's right to speak out: Does he have the right? Your stance is unsupportable.

It's exactly relevant. Where someone's freedom ends, there someone else's freedom starts. And someone who owe a lot to his motherland can't insult his country just to seem modern in Europe's eyes.
its not about looking modern in europes eyes, it is about being able to express privately or publicly your opinions or views without fear
In that they don't allow Islam to dictate the way the country is run, then the answer is yes. Unfortunately, the country is not that wealthy and is having a difficult time being accepted as a European Union state. Still, I am sure most residents there would prefer living in Turkey vs. the lack of freedoms they would have in a place like Saudi Arabia.
The press which supports O. Pamuk, the committee who decided Nobel should be Orhan Pamuk's and so on..
the press are just people writing their opinion, it is your decision to believe what they are saying or not, it is not your decision to decide who can speak out in public and who can't
