from my understanding, directories just provide back links.. no actual linking back to the directory (no reciprocity)? i ask because i see so many directories with high rank.. how is this accomplished?
maybe the webmasters buy links for their directories, or they have a network of websites, and put on each a link to the directory.
ah, only one reply, and its speculative? so.. do link directories gain rank by submitting themselves to link directories?
I have owned a general site. which have run for 3 years. but its PR only 3... I have seen many directoires have 6 or 7 PR... it did surprise me.
They get there like everyone else, a strong SEO campaign with lots of hard work. You need to do all of the regular things involved in SEO, like developing unioque content (can be hard with a directory), building lots of inbound links, aquiring links from sites with high PR, buying links, and just doing heavy promoting of all kinds.
Lacking the “heavy†word on you promotion efforts , PR3 can be achived with only free directories submissions.
an0n says the directory runs the owner which is right so therefore the owner has to work hard to keep up with the directory
reciprocals from submitters. and also from sites with free directory lists. theres at least a few hundred links in from those alone.
I'm not relying on any reciprocals. I have been purchasing links everywhere for my directory. This includes directories and just normal sites. I try to get majorly permanent links everywhere in order to .. well keep them forever So far its going good. Of course, you need a big budget to do this.
I have read some threads regarding this kind of matter. One of the webmasters here said that he reinvest the money that he earns to buy some links from another high quality directories or paid someone to manual submission.
