Hi, I am planning to buy a domain which is like <2 digit number>+< an abbreviation > eg. "99html .com" What do you think will this type of domain satisfy all criterias of being brandable, will it be recalled by people easily? please share your views I need to take a decision to register a brandable domain name. Thanks
If the number has a meaning together with the abbreviation, than it may be easy to remember. If it is an arbitrary number, you can still register it and brand it, however it may require more investment in marketing to turn the domain name into a popular one. Unless you are a giant corporation, or you after a small niche, branding matters up to a certain point. You need to be found on SE.
Yeah I think it could potentially be brandable, just look at 99Designs which is a great website that gets heaps of traffic.
I think it's much easier to remember that one than 99html.com. (Then why is it not plural like 99htmls.com.) It might work though, you can brand almost anything with enough money.
99Designs works because "Ninety-nine" rhymes with "Design". And they're also implying that they have a lot of designs. So it would be a fallacy to extend that pattern to other domains of things where the count doesn't matter and the word doesn't rhyme. Probably you should avoid registering the domain you think you want. Save a few dollars to make a budget, and I can get you a good name -- either from my own portfolio fo 10,000 or from elsewhere. As for the guy who said that branding only matters if you're a big corporation ... That's ridiculous. Why would a small business or website want to start out with an inferior name, thereby limiting the possibility of word-of-mouth publicity, losing traffic due to its name being misremembered, and eventually needing to spend lots of money advertising its change to a REAL brand name? No. It's important to start out right. And that means starting out with the right domain name.
Get a short, has meaning, keyword rich domain in the best but it is almost impossible to find that kind of domain. Alternativelly find a good domain combine with number can be an option if you has a good content. Good contents are content that is seo friendly. Not only that content must be want people want to read.
tell your friends your domain name idea, come back a week later and if they remember it then it might be a good idea. Only thing is, if your site is "99html" whats stopping someone from taking "98html" or "html99"
i don't have problem with having number in general, except that if you register "93HTML.com", and there are also all kind of competing sites "**HTML.com" sites with different numbers, how is your number 93 any better and distinct from they?
I agree with most said above. I think there are a few parts to the answer 1) Some numbers are more memorable than others. For example 99, 69, 666, 888, 7 2) Your word should be something people will remember. Actual words are better than abbreviations/acronyms 3) Words that rhyme or are associated are better e.g. 7eleven or seven11, 99redballoons (the song) etc Hope that helps PS for the time being I still think people will automatically type .com first if they cannot remember the website address
It doesn't matter much what domain name you take. People generally don't think in terms of domain names anymore. They link to it in their phone, tablet, PC, or write it down if they are not on their own device, or email it to themselves. Any domain can be branded. Start a CPM advertising campaign. These are designed chiefly for exposure and contribute significantly to brand awareness.
Number in domain is not recommended. Unless the number bring any meaning toward your brand ? It will affect your keyword toward SEO . Numbers and symbol in domain always not recommended while it will affect SEO purpose and hard to remember. It might cause your domain sound complicated as well.
