Google displays inner page for the main keyword instead of a home page

This is not happening for the first time, it's more like a rule.
I publish the site, and give it a little push, by giving few inbound links, or traffic. In few weeks its been indexed and keeps showing up as a search result for the main keywords from the domain name. Couple of weeks later, I keep getting inner page or pages for the same keyword, instead of a domain - or home page.

For example www.bikeracinggames247.com used to be on the 2nd for "bike racing games 247", and than I started getting results for the same keyword on 3rd page as this one : www.bikeracinggames247.com/game/lynx-bike-2.html, which is inner page, and ther's no home page near around

i know that it is a little early (2 months) to expect steady results but sometimes this never changes.

Does anyone know why google is doing this?

Sometimes, Google thinks that you back link or content in internal page is more relevant to the keyword searched and shows the best relevant page in search results.

Usually, new sites or pages will get a temporary boost of Google dance for higher ranking depending on the page authority before it gets back to the original rank.

3rd page is still good for a 2 months old page.

I would suggest you to do more link building for your targeted keyword anchored with your preferred page URL to get more stable ranking.

It is good for you because you have achieved good Ranking for targeted keyword in 2 months from link page. It is wonderful.
Some google provided ranking through link page because your link page more relevant to your targeted keyword rather then Home page.

It happens sumtimes where google consider your site's inner page instead of home page due to backlinks of that perticular site and keywords , meta tags include for that site's page ...

same here, google is a mess lately!
I have many external links pointing to the homepage, all inner pages link to homepage with my main keyword and yet google decides to rank a random page, every 2 days a different page but the homepage! IS so damn annoying, the inner page is on 9-10 page where the homepage was on first page!

How in the world would their stupid algo consider any inner page more relevant than the homepage, when I have these words in the title, in inner linking and in external links? These inner pages have fewer links than the homepage.

    Go google go, you rule!

Check your internal page linking. If you are linking to that particular inner page too much on your own site then affectively you're telling Google crawl bots that's where to go and that's the most important page. In turn this is why Google may show this page instead of your homepage.

LOL..someone read a SEO book recently..thanks for the great tips!

FIY, this happens because of a penalty, most likely too many links/over optimization/too many links with similar anchor texts, has nothing to do with how often google bots crawl a page..
