anyone got any good backlink building methods? I'd like to have a little brainstorming session in this thread about this. Don't mention directories or affiliates, list some other ways please.

You can consider article submission, it's a good way to get one way links :)

Probably purchasing links is the best way. Or just any other one way links via free submission.

Offer content that your competitors have overlooked and suggest those urls to various authority sites. We've been able to acquire several government and university links for clients by doing so.

Make sure the content is well written and presented professionally. List references, including your own qualifications. These sites like to link to credible, authoritative information if presented in a professional manner. If you just slap together some info and it's not supported by any references, it's likely it wouldn't be considered.

Most of these types of sites have selection criteria and your suggestions are usually reviewed by a committee rather than an individual. The contact information of the person primarily responsible for updates and maintenance of the web page is usually listed at he bottom of the page.

Some of the sites we've gotten these links for are ecommerce sites, so yes, some will link to commercial sites. Just don't link to every product and page of your site from this resource as it looks like you only have your commercial interests in mind. A single link to your home page is sufficient to transfer the juice.

So what type of content are they looking for? Instructions, Reference Resources, History, Documented Studies, Dictionaries, Manuals, Reviews, etc. about your niche, industry or product.

Add you link whereever you can ... blogs, guestbooks, web directories
give away free php scripts, or free webdesign templates
    doing 3d link exchange
provide some free services to somebody in exchange of links (example programming/web design, writing articles for him )

There are a lot ... for example if you have a web design firm you should place a link like "Powered by X Media" in all the footer pages, etc ;)

one more thing, add on your website as many pages with content as you can... they will also increse your SERPs and PR a lot

and a dumb way , did you knew that google punish you for dublicated content? if google will find dublicated content (ex. free articles) om a page it will give a PR0 on it, and the PR won't pass!

Nothing bad for getting backlinks only for PR - backlinks come first, PR is a product of your backlinks that means your site is getting popular.

rubeina, nothing left there for understanding.

    scylla,
IMO Blogs & social networking sites are good way to generate backlinks, though article submission sites seems overrated to me, most of the thoughtful readers are shifting to blogs.
