The photo (below) shows someones IP who just tried to 'invade' my computer.
Do you just forget about it, or 'fight back'?
    What do you do?

Edit: The IP address is from an ISP, and I sent them an email (IP deleted from this post). Still looking for input on what you do about hack attempts?

2nd edit: Please, answer the question about Norton in post #3
    Thanks

Reporting them to there ISP is a good idea if they are from dezvolted countrys becouse in countrys like Romania if you report to my ISP that my ip atacked you they generaly don't care ...

I've had a situation where a keyboard logger virus was the only logical explanation for someone accessing a Cpanel account. Hackers are a pain, but many of them are just idiots goofing around.

One reason I worry is I used to work with a guy whos hobby was 'friendly' hacking. He wanted to get into a security job. He showed me a complete take-over of someones computer. Meaning he was moving the cursor remotely and going into any files.

Is Norton firewall enough to protect against this?

I find Norton extremely annoying actually. It tells you everytime someone is trying to "remotely" access your computer, and asks if you would like to grant access to them, yeah thats great, but then HALF of the pages I visit their stupid worm blocker pops up and says Norton Internet Worm Protection has detected and blocked an Intrusion attempt. and then I get page Cannot be Displayed. This happens frequently on DP aswell.. All in all I would like to try something other than Norton

    Problems with DP??
Your settings are to strict, check into it. I'm not planning to buy new protection, so I'm glad my Norton works pretty well.

Also, regarding other warnings, the first time I connect to the net w/ a new program Norton gives a warning, but later attemps work fine.

    Good luck :)

I doubt it was a real intrusion attempt in the first place. Norton and Trend Micro PC Cillin are two of the most annoying programs you can put on your computer. I honestly don't bother with active virus protection anymore. They make their presence known every 2 minutes and eat resources. I just do maybe a monthly scan.

If I were running a server, yea it would be protected, but I doubt anyone wants to mess with my computer.

Same here. I have not had an AV on my computer for over a year. Unless you're downloading stuff from p2p or visiting shady sites, you really have no use for an AV.

I advise trying McAfee, not sure if it is only released here in the UK and Europe but after trying both for a year MA is far superior to Norton. I did turn norton off quite a lot, as it is likely to popup with an update or alert half way through a fullscreen application, which can really mess up games or other CPU demanding applications.

Multiple accounts under the same IP is my guess.

I gave up on Norton and McAfee a long time ago. Not only are they annoying, but McAfee screwed up my comp so bad I had to reformat it. I've been using Zone Alarm since. It's just as good (or better), doesn't pop up warnings about every little thing, and it's totally free.

In my experience, it's best to just ignore this kind of thing. It's probably just some idiot script kiddie scanning random comps to see which ones are vulnerable. Yours wasn't so he probably just moved on to an easier target.

I recommend using McAfee personally. I use their basic virus protection and I also used to have a firewall from them. The firewall kept popping up for every single program I would open so I just deleted that when the subscription was over. The virus protection is great though, and it doesn't pop up with annoying updates and things its blocked every 2 minutes your browsing the Internet. It just quietly runs in the background. Plus you can scan your files every once in a while to make sure it's doing its job.

By the way, I believe McAfee is far superior to Norton if you're basing it off of the fact of how annoying it is.
