Why all directories are Free, No reciprocal link required?

I wonder why all are so? what do you want and what you have got?

    Free:
you cannot get any incoming money.
    No reciprocal link required:
you cannot get any backlinks or traffic.

    :(

All the directory owner just wanted to be generous :)

How do you know? They could sell links on it.

err... regarding reciprocal, because it's much more difficult to get someone to give you a reciprocal link than to get some one to pay you for a link - i.e. most people would much rather pay to get a link on your directory than to return the favour with a reciprocal link. ;)

of course, if your directory has no pr/traffic, then no one wants to pay. this leaves only 1 option - totally free.

I believe that the owners of many new directories offer free links at the beginning, in order to attract lots of submissions to their directories.

Then, when the directories have grown and have gained some credibility and desirability, they switch to paid links. This makes good economic sense.

    aggree with Jim4767

i myself prectice this for my Free Directory thats click.pk.

and last month i have to add the $1 fee cause of very heavy traffic almost 1500 links perday :( and it was really hard to varify and approve / disapprove.

usually webmasters get traffic from the word FREE and when there is enough traffic make it paid. i daily get 1 or 2 paid links now .

maintaining a clean quality directory is a lot of work so it is hard to believe that those 100% free will remain so on long term...they will either turn to paid or just cease to exist

if this, a validation code image will stop the auto-submitters. why have I been suggested to remove that validation image from the submit.php page?

    Richie_Ni is right to some extent you can say 40% of links are auto-submitters, one can clearly say hoe many are auto-submitters by looking at stats of site and with some Tracking softwares. i have both :);

well there was no 0/day :)

one of my DP Friend just posted at thread 3rd August 2006 , that was the first day of Directory. and i got 200+ links from DP in 24 H which keep comming for next week .

and so far there is no day when there are 0 / day links.
and in mid of septemper i started getting 1000+ links / day ( obviously 40% were auto-submitters )

you are pretty lucky to have a friend posted a thread for you that he could place a link directly in a post... I'm new today too, but I have received 2 warnings from masters...:( I have to wait another 7 days to set my signature to place a link of my directory. but I'm pleasured that have got 60 links today from DP today. :p
