SOLVED: This was my stupid error mistyping the directory link. Hello, I am trying to do simple ecommerce with paypal, sell graphic files from my WordPress site. How do I get a link to the file to work, to allow the customer to download the file after they pay? The download folder is in a directory at my site. When I try the links that I know are correct, I get 404 errors from the WP install rather than the file for download. Thanks.
Could you please give us more information about the problem, for example URLs that are returning 404?
Sure, here is an example: www.mysite.com/directory/downloads/graphicsfile.zip This points to a file in a folder in my WP installation. I'd like to provide this link to customers after they pay, but it returns a 404 error.
Have you checked your .htaccess file if there are not any rules that may deny access to the directory where your files are located?
Thanks for the help. I am very embarrassed to admit it, but this is all due to my error in entering the directory location in the download links. Once I caught my typo "download" should have been "downloads," the downloads from the site worked, no more site 404 errors. At first I thought there was some special process whereby you had to turn off WP managing the folder. I'll be more carefully checking my links next time.
if this was not a mistake you could use a backup plogin and then dowdlode the files to your computer.
