Similar niche forums are a great place to start. Another way is to start a twitter and follow those that are following a guru in your field.
If you want real traffic, you need to find sources that won't waste your time. #1 source are the search engines. Do some PPC and test out your results. ppc would be a good place to start, would recommend the book advanced google adwords if looking for a good understanding of it

Also try craigslist, backpage and qwikad.com Backlinking is ok, but when you're backlinked naturally (people find your site, like it and then link it to their blogs, sites) it works much better than buying gigs promising to backlink you.
