    Hi all,

I am relativly new to blogs and adsense. My site has been running a couple of months and dont get me wrong I dont expect it to be making me a fortune I am not one of those who thinks you can be making a grand a month 2 months in (although im sure some do)

My problem is my CTR currently for this month is 0.09% which I know from reading around is appauling. In the last 30 days I have had nearly 10k pageviews and 3000 Unique visitors but only 9 clicks!. I used the heatmap for adsense and have been spending hours reading posts here the past couple of days and over at google groups in the hope I could see where I was going wrong. I spend a lot of time on my content and its all original and I would say at least half decent

Is there any advice anyone can give me my site is http://computerlearnhow.com. Am I doing something wrong?

    Many thanks in advance

    Craig

Well your CTR is appauling that's true, but so is your ad placement and choice of ad size, so there's room for improvement. Although one of the big mistake you did was to talk about technology. That's bad because for adsense you want non technical people since they're much more likely to click on ads.

Thanks for the info. I choose a technology site because that is what I do as my day job (Run a computer repair business). Originally the site was just to stop lots of wasted hours on the phone to people with the same problem as I could direct them all somewhere (I spend about 5 hours a week on the phone with people who for example want to know simple things like how to change screensavers, speed up their computer, check their internet speed etc.) I figured it may as well make me some money too.

As for the traffic recently(the past week or so) about 40% has been coming from google search (about 100 per day) but still no improvement in CTR.

The ad placement and size I choose after reading ideas on here. Can you let me know where you think I am going wrong with the placement and size James.

    Thanks again.

Yes, if you focus on really BASIC technology then it's also fine, like "how to delete a photo from facebook" or even "how to print a photo" and "how to send an email" then it can be ok.
Otherwise I would personally keep away from technical topics if I want to attract mass traffic and adsense clicks.

About the advices on ad placement and size, you catch me on a bad day as I'm tired of repeating the same crap.. But the short version: put yourself in the shoes of the advertizers and you'll know the best ad placement.

I find your ad placement to be what I would typically do. I feel the main reason your CTR is crap is because of the users intent when they arrive at your site. There is no real commercial purpose behind searching for computer tips and tricks. Something commercial here would be "best laptop reviews" or "cheap sony laptops" as that user is looking to buy a laptop and will more likely click on an ad showing a picture of a cheap laptop for sale. Just my 2 cents

Thanks ChR0N1k that does make sense and I did consider that as I suppose if I was looking for FREE help I would not be interested in buying something (unless it was something like boosting my memory etc). Maybe 5 of my posts a week should be helpful as I hope they are and the other 5 should be more commercial based as you say. I will give it a try and see what happens over the next month. Cheers

here is my suggession on adsense ads in to your blog- you try to add more content (big paragraphs) and put your ads in to your content . you can put your ads in to your header . as i think the one reason for less click on ads is that you have filled your sidebar with ads completely . i think it will be more beneficial not to show too many ads in sidebar. just try i think it work for you to generate more clicks as it has worked for my blogspot blog.

Sorry to hear it, bro. Your site looks great and it seems like the ads are where they are supposed to be. Keep on plowing, do not give up. Keep trying different locations. Something will work out for you!

Others covered what needs to be done.. I would highly HIGHLY recommend changing that stupid header image though. It's confusing and just plain sloppy and amateurish..

Congrats still, even .75% increase is better than a .75% drop :) just keep thinking positive and keep working on the sites and you will hit it large eveuntally.

Had feedback about that header so all changed now. I was also getting feedback that said the image below the Nav bar was off putting so removed that for now.
