My website rankings too have been hit by the Penguin update, but i'm sticking to my off page steps, hope the recovery is quick. I would suggest start forum postings, article submissions, social bookmarking as also guest commenting.

    Hello Frnd....
As much as i have studied about Panda upatde, it is more of content related update, targeting sites duplicate content and targeting spammers who scrape content. The First Panda update was over a year ago..So i think should check your quality of content, analyze it again and sooner you will be out of it.........:)

I agree its simple but that is what you want to focus on. Producing high quality content off-site will keep in good standing with the panda update. Producing high quality content on-site will keep the penguin update from hurting you. So focus on great content

I think that my site was affected as well and didn't really know what to do about it until I read this guy's post about making changes after Google Penguin. This post really helped me gain a better understanding of how Google Penguin works and how to get out of it. Hopefully these tips will help me during the next update.

Learn as much as you can about the changes with Penguin and see how your site can improve and adapt with this Penguin update. Lots of sites have been hit, so get an edge on the competition by acting faster than the other competing sites.

The ONLY way to recover from panda / penguin updates are to keep updating your website with high quality content.

Then you can go to webmaster tools and appeal your website to get your rankings back.

Remember to also lower the amount of ads within your website as this might be an issue as well.

P.s. check this blog post out it might help you

lot of sites got hot by penguin but sites that were engaged in legitimate link building practice didn't get hit. another name for penguin update is web spam update meaning google went after sites that were practicing shady link building using spam or methods that are not approved by google webmaster guideline. methods such as automated blog commenting, mass article submission to private blog networks, buying links on link farms, paid links, etc got all the sites penalized.

just by looking at the site will not give anyone any idea as to why your site got hit. webmaster tool account will present a lot of data. a careful analysis of your webmaster tool account will show you your link profile and any warning google might have for your site. if there is any links showing for your site that is questionable, you will need to remove it somehow. contact the site owner and see if you can have those links removed. if not possible, setup 301 redirection to redirect questionable incoming links to external sites.

if your site was penalized manually, you will need to do the above step AND submit a reconsideration request with google. for penalty that is not manually applied, there is no need to submit reconsideration request.

once all that is done, you will need to launch a well diversified link building campaign along with a social media campaign.

Now only concentrate on link building related to your niche and that too in a limit.

I did some article blog posts as well before Penguin hit and I think that may have screwed me. Did about 150 posts or so over a month. How long will I be penalized for ? What if I can't get these posts deleted by the site owner?

It will be interesting to see how this plays over time, if just adding 150 posts can knock a site out then competitors could do this to hit their competition - we would end up with negative SEO campaigns to target competitors. Google certainly would not want this.

I can't say for sure it was the article posts but I did 150 over one month and i've never done that many before. Maybe 3 or 4 a month before that. Along with that I also did some regular text link on higher PR sites that were related to mine. I think I got nailed for the use of exact keyword phrases as anchor text, even though I used many different phrases .

Im so upset as years of work and money have been wasted by this update and I was only doing what every other competitor was to stay in the rankings. Now I have to start all over again and i'm wondering if its even worth buying text links again? Any advice?
