I joined joeant to submit a friends site a few months back, so I guess I'm sort-of involved, though I only submitted her site.

The info took me about 2 minutes to find, if that long.

Whether it is thru rankings or direct traffic, I believe that Joe Ant is definitely worth the listing.

One thing I find strange on Directories listings at JoeAnt, they always say “human-edited” on the description, but basically all directories are human-edited or else they are link farms. :)

Where did you find any information about paid employees? The only thing that they have mentioned is volunteers. Are you assuming that such employees exist?

I think the volunteer system works very well at Joeant and dmoz should implement a similar system, what I really hate is the reviewers forum, looks like a script from the late 90’s :), I submitted I site for free I got accepted after several interactions.

No one pays that much money, whether to Yahoo or JoeAnt, in the explectation of receiving only a review. Even if clearly stated. It's not the "right thing to do" and it's morally wrong.

Even if there are guidelines, some guidelines might be obscure or difficult to understand. The burden should not for making sure the site satisfies the guidelines should not rest on the submitting webmaster . That, in a moral world, should be the burden of the directory.

You pay; if your site is rejected, your money is refunded. It would be fair to say, refund the money except for $5. But to keep the whole amount is very, very wrong.

On the speed pass terms of service page it says in several places:
All sites submitted through JoeAnt.com Speed-Pass will be reviewed by a staff editor for inclusion in the directory.

Yes, I'm assuming the staff editor is a paid employee. I think that's a fair assumption, though I could be wrong.
helleborine, you can't be serious. You're making this a moral issue and you have determined the service they are offering regardless of what they say they are offering? So, you're saying it's wrong for them to offer that service but it's okay for you to use that service and then complain if you didn't get what you decided they were offering, regardless of what they state they are offering and you agreed to when you submitted? They are morally accountable to you for not giving you the service you decided they were offering? There's something very, very wrong with your perceived perception of morality. It supersedes the reality.

You have a choice as does the owner of Joeant. You can pay for a review or you can join and get a free review. In both cases you are not guaranteed a listing, which is clearly stated in bold print.

So in fact you are assuming and making it up as you go and you have no idea if it is paid staff or volunteers, right?

As you can see by this post:

Just because they have an email on their web site, it doesn't mean they actually deal with questions or complains.

Sorry but you're the one that made things up without any real investigation. Its not too much of a stretch to go from a staff member to a paid employee. But then, I never said there was a paid employee so I'm not making anything up, only reporting what's on the site. If you don't want to believe the information there, that's your choice.

I can see that discussing with you is very productive, especially when you don't know what you have posted from one post to another. Just get back to us when you are actually sure about what is it that you are trying to say.

Well, I see you have comprehension problems. Perhaps you should read what I wrote once again, or do I need to point you to the sentence and highlight what it actually says?

Its a business and the people who accept the paid listings are paid staff so there wage has to be covered aswell as the owner obviously wants to make good profit.
Should kids who spend 20k going through schooling get refunded if they dont get the qualifications they wanted? Hmm maybe companies should refund the petrol cost for people driving to job interviews also.

First you tried to claim that they were paid staff and when I called you on it, then you said that you just assume that this is the case. Why are you so interested that they should keep the money? I know that some of the DMOZ editors are involved in joeant and you are a DMOZ editor too, are you sure that you are only discussing the issue and not acting on your own best interest?

gworld, I really don't understand your apparent need to dog JoeAnt or those who are trying to clarify their policies. It's clear that you want the policy to be different than it actually is. Why belabor the point?

gworld, are you implying that I get some kind of monetary reward from Joeant or dmoz?

I never claimed that Joeant has paid staff and since you still are not comprehending what I wrote, let me try and help you.
In all honesty, it was a sarcastic response to what you asked me that had already been answered by Hbird64, who is associated with joeant. He clearly stated that volunteers do not review submissions via the speed pass. If volunteers do not review the speed pass submissions then logic would say that an employee does them and yes, that is an assumption since I clearly do not know it to be a fact, nor do I care who does them or if they get paid or not. One has to wonder why you care.

If you or anyone else don't like the review service joeant offers, then don't use it. But to try and make it something it isn't is making it up as you go, which is what you accused me of doing. I also stated that I don't understand why anyone would use the speed pass option when it is easy to join and submit for free.
