The Government of India has launched this tablet on October 5,2011 naming it "Akash" which means "SKY" in English. With its previos prototype name as "Sakshat" which means "Embodiment", it was renamed on its launching. This tablet was designed and developed by Indian Institute of technology in partner with a British company DataWind. Yes $35 is the price of this all new tablet for students and for the general public its just $60. Comparing the price of all the tablets in the world this tablet is the cheapest of all. Including all the features it just cost so less.
Actually Chinese tablets are lower in price This Indian tablet will cost $60 to the general public, but a similar Chinese tablet is sold in China on the domestic market for $50. So the Chinese tablet is still cheaper.
may be...but its good that they are giving it in cheap rate to college students...and any way its cheap in india.....may be not against china
You can read more about the original news (and recent update in the comments) on our website: www.robaid.com/gadgets/india-is-developing-a-35-dollar-computer-for-students.htm Although it is far from other more expensive tablets, it will increase literacy with right applications on it.
If it's as good as most of the Chinese ripoffs, it isn't worth even 60 cents. Price alone doesn't determine whether something is worth buying, unless you don't understand reality.
Good for people who cannot afford the high prices of latest laptop.Best thing done by Indian Government.
