Social Media Marketing (SMM) is almost the same as like having a conversation with your friends at a coffee shop. It is also like getting that unexpected phone call from an old friend and just talking to each other. It is conversational and laid back. There are hundreds of companies jumping in on the social media band wagon that really just don’t get it and they are usually trying too hard. My question to you is, what do you think are the most common mistakes that companies make regarding social media marketing?
I just heard that GE pulled their ads off facebook since they were losing hundreds of thousands of $$ with no ROI. Social media ads will never be as efficient as, let's say, Adwords' ads. In my opinion, if you are a serious business looking for quality advertising - avoid posting ads on something like fb and other SM sites. It makes no sense to have them there. On the other hand, if you want a bunch of people to flock to your dating, coupon, video, forum or some other entertainment site - then it's definitely your niche for advertising.
The common mistakes the company make while doing social marketing are, 'not having targeted audience', 'not treating the customers casually on social networking', 'relying on third parties to get them social networking followers / fan resulting in again not targeted audience and finally 'appointing the wrong people to manage their social networking sites.'
The greatest SMM mistake that you can ever make is assuming that Facebook or Twitter users are online to "meet" you and your products! Look at Facebook like a platform where get to meet and make friends with the world. Simply put, make friends first, let them know you and what you do.....then and only then should you introduce your products to them. Try this and tell me how it goes
For good result, I highly recommend that you generate the audience fist before showcasing any kind of product.
Most common mistakes are not interacting enough, and spamming with mostly just offers. Not being personal enough.
Advertising on Social Media Networks is great for name branding or offering related free services... Even for generating "cheap" leads... However, if you think for one second you are going to see a ROI on selling Home gyms, legal services, or motorcycles you are out of your mind!
Hate to break up the circle jerk but the truth is, there are marketers making MILLIONS on social media PPC alone. It depends on the niche and what you're trying to sell. I've found that social media may not be the best at direct sales, but it's a killer for generating leads to market to outside of FB. Think outside the box and stop trying to paint social media marketing with a huge brush. It just makes you sound like all the other guru wannabes who speak in generalities because they have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to specifics.
A social platform is not for direct selling. Here it is necessary to build up long term relationship with current and prospective buyers. The aggressive selling strategy in social network seems to me the major mistake of company.
I would have to agree. I think not interacting enough is one of the biggest mistakes. After all it is social networking.
