Sorry to post 2 questions back to back. I have a video sharing site and would like to get traffic from YouTube somehow. I don't really know how to do it. I've gotten some my submitting videos but none of them have ever been very popular so I've gotten very little traffic from them. Is there another way? Would leaving comments on other videos help? (or hurt?)
leaving comments is not likely to be worth your time. create videos that are incredibly interesting, funny, etc, and they'll spread naturally. works the same as websites-- if you create something people want to see or read, they're more likely to pass it on to their friends and you'll gain traffic without much effort at all.
comments is not a good way at all to get traffic on youtube, now you can not use html at all in comments on youtube becase of spammers... you can not even leave sites, best way is to make a popular movie and have a water mark in it, you will need atleast 40 thousand hits on your video to see decent raffic comming in from youtube... their are other ways to gain ok traffic and backlinks over time but aswell =) good luck but...
I'd give reputation for this answer. I agree fully. Make something interesting, fun (perhaps) and good quality. Give a tester in great quality, or more for something of lesser quality. I pass good content on to a few people, and might blog it if I like it, and will visit the parent site if I can. S
the 1st thing to do is to host good movies, the second thing to support the 1st to upload vids with ur watermark and maybe a small catchy phrase.
For a cracking example of viral marketing, search YouTube for "Diet Coke and Mentoes". There's a clip in there that is a few minutes long of two guys performing what can almost be described as a "firework display". If you've seen it already you'll know what I'm talking about. If you haven't - get over there and watch it.
Yah, that clip is pretty good. I watched it the other day and I have to say it's very very creative! The problem is coming up with interesting/creative stuff that others might want to watch & spread.
Thanks all. For me the problem is less the great ideas than creatin gthe videos. Someday I'll give in and get a mac where putting together videos isn't hard at all.
Comments are the easiest way. If you do them correctly as well, it can increase your pagerank and backlinks by quite a bit.
Actually, there is a way to use You Tube along with Myspace to get traffic. Myspace allows you to imbed video in your MySpace page, and a lot of people follow funny videos to their You Tube origins. It's adding in an extra step, but it will get your video You Tube traffic that might in turn get site traffic.
some month ago We start a community website with alot of multimedia content. Due the limit of space and band breed we decided to upload part of our vid's with our watermark in Youtube and Google video. Some of those video's become very popular in Somali internet users and they spread as viral, within 3 months our vid's get more than 400 000 viewers and many part of that viewer visit our site. Today our website gets 1000 unique visitors without any other promotion.
1. The first 5 seconds of your video should have your website address somehow, even if it is only a black background with your address written, its ok. 2. After those 5 seconds and when the video actually starts, add a little watermark on the video. These two first steps are suppose to make the viewer memorize the address, if he is curious enough he will visit your site. Now the important part: 3. After submitting the video to youtube, visit the video page and refresh your browser as many times as you want. 4. If your video reaches 546465523k views or so, it will be on the most popular videos of the day and on any of the other featured categories they have. 5. After reaching that status, the video stays on the main page youtube. 6. I'm almost sure the video is also included on the daily youtube newsletter Steps 5 and 6 give your video/website address a lot of exposure. 7. Take a seat 8. Wait for traffic and check if it works, or not 9. Go back to number 1
"Someday I'll give in and get a mac where putting together videos isn't hard at all." There is great video editing software available on PCs and Windows too. You don't need a Mac to do this sort of thing, and it is unlikely to make it much easier. Stop making excuses - do it today!
I got excited about the browser refresh exploit but it doesn't work for me even after clearing cookies. About all you can do is provide a watermark, or "bug" and a link to your domain in the description that noone will follow except robots. Tag it well and if the content is good (funny/shocking/controversial/sexy), then it will get viewed and eventually picked up by bloggers. If you are lucky they will link back to you with decent anchor text and your SERPs will shine. If you are unlucky you will get 1000 backlinks overnight on your new domain and suffer possible penalties. Good luck - seeding viral videos can be addicting! Chipper
Make a tutorial video. Teach people how to do something, but don't teach them something boring like "How to get rid of spam". They can just search on Google for that. I personally have some tutorials on YouTube that teach people how to do various hip hop dance moves. I also use tags that I know alot of people always search to find these types of videos. Thanks to this I'm getting a constant stream of hundreds of visitors on a daily basis. Hopefully it'll get to the point where I get thousands instead. You can also get interesting videos from other sites and watermark these videos with your site URL and then upload it, but make sure these videos are in the public domain and not copyright, or else you'll either be facing some legal trouble or it'll be removed eventually by YouTube. It would be advisable to set up different accounts on YouTube to cater for different types of videos. For example, you could have one account that would consist of a majority of dancing tutorial videos and another consisting mainly of funny/interesting videos.
Get some video editing software and for videos you have permission to alter, put a watermark or logo of your website in the corner with the address. That usually works well because videos tend to end up all over the place and this may be the only way to determine the original source.
Raithe - What do you mean comments and backlinks? Will B. - Do you have a recommendation for software that's easy to use and not too $$$? Thanks for the gentle nudge.
Its true if people find something interesting they surely want to share it, and more people will share it more trafffic you will generate..
