Wikitory - freely edited wiki URL directory

Hi all,

I just started a wiki using the MediaWiki software. I wanted to create a truly open link directory. I feel that DMOZ is not really user edited at all, because they don't accept many new editors and the editing process takes forever.

The directory is called Wikitory.com (Wiki + Directory = Wikitory).

I feel that the Wikipedia success shows that freely editable user communities can thrive and become incredible sources of content.

What the goal is here - to make a comprehensive listing of URLs under categories, with information as well.

Why you should submit your links: it's free, and it's easy. I hope that Wikitory grows in popularity, and people promote Wikitory, because as it becomes more popular, its pagerank will rise, and the value of submitting links will rise.

I literally had this idea tonight and started it in the last couple hours. I really believe in the idea; it's sort of experimental, but I think it can work.

This is the first place I've mentioned the site.

Let's try to do something big

 

BTW, there is literally no content on the site yet except for the main categories and 3 sub-categories each, as well as 2 links. I want it to be user generated. Go for it.

 

Just a suggestion...you could try filling up some of the categories with authority sites so that people can get some ideas of what you're looking for and how they should post links. Furthermore, many people have never edited wikipedia...so I would at least offer a little tutorial on how to post and/or edit a link.

Looks like a good idea. I've added a couple categories and links, and I'll come back another time to add some more...

Have you any idea how you are going to promote this yet?

I submitted my link to Wikidweb a whole year ago, but it still hasn't been recognised as a backlink by any search engine. The front page might be PR5, but none of the other pages have any PageRank.

Other similar wiki directories include AboutUs.org and TagTooga.com. These don't seem to be indexed by search engines either.
