hello wanted to find out what rights there were being on a dedicated server vs a shared server would a hosting company cancel service, for claims of copyright even if you are hosted on a dedicated server or would that happen on shared servers only do they regulate whats hosted on a dedicated server thank you
In short, yes. Technically, you're not purchasing a dedicated server so it's not *your* server. If you host content that infringes on DMCA regulations you will get shut down, likely with no refund. This is assuming your speaking of a server within the USA. Some places offer what is called colocation, where you ship them a machine and they'll put it on their network; however, even though it's your server, you are still at their will because you'll be utilizing their bandwidth.
Certainly, your webhost may suspend your account no matter if it's on shared or you are the owner of a dedicated sever if If they gets any notification of copyright violation or illegal content. Usually they will ask you to remove the abusive content form your website.
It doesn't matter who owns what (server, bandwidth, facility), if you are still in the USA where DMCA is a law, you will still be liable. If I owned my own datacenter, server and some reason bandwidth lines, I would still legally have to follow the DMCA.
