    Hiyas.

I have a site nearly ready for launch which I am planning to spend big money on promoting and links building.

I have a problem currently of which domain to use and was wondering if you could help me out.

    1. PR5 domain, recently dropped (2 weeks ago)... Has most of the backlinks still including edu ones.

    or

    2. An aged domain with lower number and quality of backlinks?

I like the PR5 name better for the site but am worried that I will waste a lot of money promoting a sandboxed site. The site will be of gerneal category and option one is a Science and Technology linked site.

    Questions Questions....

Rep for any that can help.

I wouldn't use a recently dropped domain. The notion is that Google and maybe other engines reset all IBLs once a domain expires and your site will be treated as "newly registered".

I'd use the aged domain for any projects.

I will take the first one because high PR websites is being crawled fast by Google. Also .edu backlinks gives big weight on SERPs. You can never get wrong with a .edu backlinks. ;)

Google will not drop the links that quickly

Using a tad of logic Google does not pick up the links posted on the net for several months (IBL / PR Updates) therefore they do not shed them quickly.

A more important issue Is the domain URL related to the site content you will putting up??

Untargetted visitors are a waste of time and marketing efforts.

Also buying links is often not too smart a move if youre hoping for SEO results as the engines see the practice as artifical

I think for short term gains, go for the aged domain but in long term, the first choice is better.

Exactly this is my point. The success of the site really depends on what effort you will give on your site. Both of them are good choices. But if I were to choose I will choose the first option.

Google ranks aged sites higher, other features being equal. Also already established links may no longer be relevant unless your site has the same focus as the original and some of those may have been traded and unless you link to them those links will disappear.

I would go with old but make sure the site hasn't been penalized or banned or it may never do anything.
