How come googles so slow to index?

I launched a website a few weeks ago and google still hasn't indexed it. I've got a signature link from this forum, a sitewide link on 2 websites and a forum (google is more or less always sat on the forum) and about 200 directory submissions. I've submitted it to google, there are probably well over 1000 backlinks and google still isn't looking at it. Am I just impatient?

When I first launched a new site a while back it got indexed super-quick, with literally only a couple of links to the site.

So I don't know mate, I would have thought the bots would have gave it a good going over by now!

200 Directory links and signature links are next to worthless. They are extremly low quality and aren't what you need at this time. You need to get a link from a related site on a content page. This will get you indexed with days.

Submit a press release or to article directories along with Google Sitemap and you will be indexed fairly quickly

I agree with the above comment. For example, I started a new web site recently and posted a link to it from another, topic-related web site I own (Google PR 6). The new web site was indexed by Google in a few days.

The sitewide website and forum links are all high content (the forum less so than the websites) and pages get indexed pretty quick on them.

    Nice article btw :)

Its all about patience...it took me about a month and a half to get my site indexed on google and I was building links each day. Just keep doing what you're doing and don't get discouraged. If you can do that, I PROMISE that you will eventually be indexed.

Oh, sometimes it took months before it is indexed by Google depending on the content of the website.

I have noticed over the past few weeks that google has not been crawling sites as frequently as in the past. So, you may be doing all the right things but google is just a little slower to index sites, especially newer sites and new content pages for established sites.

My methodology is purely non-scientific so take it for what it is worth, but I have noticed sites that were getting crawled daily now get crawled every few days - sites that were getting crawled every few days are now getting crawled every 7-10 days.

I have also noticed huge variances in google's matching results for queries. Additionally, SERPS are switching around a bit along with PR. My hunch is that google is getting ready to do a fairly significant update in the next few weeks.
