I think the whole internet can agree that Matt Cutts has done more to destroy Google than he has to help it. Google is now officially the most non-relevant search engine on the market thanks to the "Optimize Penalty" they just rolled out today. Forums everywhere are now poking fun at the junk that is ranking in Google top 10; such as countless abandoned sites with blank or little content. This is what Google calls "Quality??" To read more about which sites are preferred by Google see here http://trafficplanet.com/topic/2470-wake-up-google-theres-no-such-thing-as-over-optimized/
not really. those sites that don't rank but have good quality contents just don't know enough to SEO probably.
Ok now search "linux and open source blog" in google and open first 3 results. And tell me is this relevant websites. I hope you will not be satisfied with the results shown in top of search.
This same thing happened with me today. I was searching for a particular topic & clicked on the 1st site... there was no content on that site. It was blank. Again after trying few words, I experienced the same problem. These sites which are ranking 1st on google does not have content.
You are not the only user getting such type of results. Thousands of people getting such non relevant results.
Right thing is i dont mind abandoned websites thats fine as they are relevant to my search but i must say i am getting annoyed with sites that are bare i mean i tried ranking for some keywords and i have found sites that are 3 years old with nothing on them and i do mean nothing some dont even have titles they have the site struture up but no content i dont understand how are some of these sites ahead of mine is baffling.
I am noticing a lot of brand names in the top 10 search. So how can we get better serps if G only pushes the bigger brands which are not always helpful?
I think the hole website sorting process is not finished yet. Therefore lots of results are not very relevant yet. But that pfizer comes first of you google for viagra does not seem to be something bad imo. I mean it just punishes site which used Black Hat technics and got away with it so far. Which means sites that play by the rules are now better off.
I think we should be patient and watch whats going on for atleast one week. Because when we are pushed back it is probably because you are going to get a better jump forward.
Yes, there are many more updates coming. These upcoming weeks are going to be crazy, our websites will go up and down in SERPs during this period a LOT
Yawn - "Sky is falling" posts already. Results will keep bouncing for the next few days... the landing pages and blank EMD's that you currently see at the top will fall away again. A wholesale change like this to combat "bad linking" was never going to be an instant success. Take this time to write quality content and review your rankings this time next week- things will be much clearer by then. WebDev
Quality contest doesn't help anymore. All of the good quality sites are moving down to make room for the super rich. No wait.....if you type in Justin Bieber his music selling official page and twitter account are still there. Whoops, I'm sorry.
It's not like those three results are about cats. They are Linux and blogs. The first two even have titles for that keyword. Anyway, let's face it, no one really searches that keyword. They might search for "Linux open source" (without quotes) and the first three results are good. In fact, all 10 seem OK. Do you have a better example of how they have degraded? I see you're still paranoid. They have Adwords for companies that want to waste money. You got one thing right; they are for a few reasons including because they use Bing, which isn't all that great.
I personally found that the results it is giving me are fine, i have had no issues. I even saw a huge rise in my own traffic from search, first page with most of my 2 word phrases. I guess doing white-hat SEO pays off...
Meh, I don't care. I'm not using google search no more. I've moved to something else. Not bing, not yahoo, not ask, etc.
